HLC Committees

The Honors Leadership Council (HLC) is a collection of students that serves to enhance the overall Honors Program experience. HLC is involved with student life throughout the year. They act as guides during the New Student Retreat when students first move in, and they run different programs and events throughout the year.

There are four committees in HLC:

Community Development

The Community Development Committee helps plan and execute events and programming for HP students. They are responsible for the yearly HProm, solicit input from HP students on events and programming, and promote the HP through social media.

Plan and execute HProm each spring semester
Plan and execute events that promote interaction between all years of Honors Program students
Maintain social media/online presence

Community Outreach

New Student Onboarding

The New Student Onboarding Committee is responsible for the recruitment and orientation of new HP students. They assist with the admissions process, provide mentoring for new students, and plan the August new student retreat.

Plan and execute the Honors Program Retreat each fall semester
Establish mentorship program for first year students
Attend and assist with recruitment events
Evaluate applications for new HP members

Samantha Mutiti

Samantha Mutiti (she/her)

In HP, I have been in the Honors Leadership Council for three years. In that time, I have been part of and lead of the New Student Onboarding Committee that helped recruit and accept new student to the program. Recently in my fourth year, I was given the opportunity to be the Director of Internal Affairs for Honors Leadership Council where I got to have a chance to practice leadership, organization, and try to give back to the new members of the Honors Program what I believe I have gotten out of it all theses years.

On campus I am an undergraduate researcher with an interest in going to graduate school (fingers crossed!). I have also been a member of many other organizations: I was in Lambda Sigma (a service organization for second years), BMES (biomedical engineering society), SWE (society of women engineers) and I have been a Teaching Assistant for a few BMED courses.

I’ve loved that Georgia Tech has not only given me the opportunity to expand my academic and professional experience, but it has been a place I have gotten to connect with a number impressive and great people. I believe GT also has a number of communities that are a great choice for people to find a place (for example, the Honors Program!).

HP has been an incredible experience for me. I was able to meet a great group of students and faculty that were available for support. There is also a great emphasis on making sure that students in HP have opportunities to enjoy activities outside of academics. This includes different events and activities available to HP students. The Honors Leadership Council is also a great place to gain leadership experience and meet other HP students that may be in a different year. HLC is a chance to be part of planning and running some of these events.

When I was accepted to Tech, my parents encouraged me to look into the Honors Program. Overall, I wanted the chance to be part of a community because I knew that would be a good way to meet people and feel comfortable in my first year at Tech as well as benefit academically!
